Art at Neev is a serious programme. Even older children first draw and then write. Somehow the world takes away this ability in later years. Art starts early with an exploration of color and advances into an understanding of art from around the world, developing children's own innate style over the years. Much of this is evident in our environments. We all know a picture says a thousand words, so children begin to make meaningful marks to express, much before they can write.
Each Neev branch has a dedicated art studio where children are encouraged to express their creativity using a variety of mediums and materials. Children are encouraged to explore materials and are also taught how to work with different mediums which is called 'skilling' as children are taught the required skills. At Neev, art is about enjoyment just as much as participation and pieces are displayed in a gallery-style area, giving fellow students and families a chance to enjoy an exhibition of artwork from students of all ages.
Art is employed and utilized with independence. The child is free to choose his/her own media, medium to execute his ideas. Guidance and information is provided to adapt their choices for true expressions. This helps children build their understanding, boosting their confidence, valuing their own decisions and building their self esteem; resulting in wholesome growth curve for tapping individual potential of children at their pace of learning. As a result children develop their own language of expression.
Research says, repeated experiences with open ended art builds nerve circuits in the brain that influence how a child does in school, in relationships, and in society as a whole.
Art engages children's hands, minds and emotions and helps develop valuable cognitive, social-emotional, and multi-sensory skills. They learn to identify the many developmental skills and master through art activities, and this self directed art activities fosters creativity and self esteem in young children.
Art philosophy at Neev is a thought provoking process with a well rounded and focused curriculum that is not only integral but planned and executed in continuum to enhance learning through the grades. The curriculum is crafted to induce creative thinking and enhance skill development, knowledge and understanding, with exploration of both media and medium to build aesthetics amongst the early years. The main aim of art curriculum is being fun through explorations to express and discover infinite possibilities reflecting unique identity of a child.
At Neev, creative impression in every form is celebrated as a child's expression. A simple mark making, a doodle, a drawing or a splash of paint is exercised as a point of exploration aiding children to think creatively and represent their ideas, rather than draw of mere imagination. This anchoring fosters learning, encouraging application for knowledge enhancement.
Toddlers and young children are naturally creative and they benefit immensely from educators who adopt a creative approach as they encourage children to explore their world. Creating enriching and enabling environments, indoors and outdoors, which stimulate and encourage children to explore and play, help nurture the child's curiosity and creativity.
Educators at Neev foster creativity by valuing each child's uniqueness. They are best placed to guide children's learning and development through meaningful observations, which take account of what the child already knows.
