Student Government

Our Vision
Neev Student Government exists to grow young leaders who work towards the school's mission: building knowledge, self-awareness, and relationships with people and the environment, to seek happy, healthy, and impactful lives. Every council, desk, and representative role is a place to practise this mission in action: initiating real work, serving the community before self, and being accountable for it.

Why This Matters in the Age of AI
As AI makes knowledge and answers abundant, what will set students apart is no longer how much they know but their willingness to do hard things anyway; what David Brooks, writing in The Atlantic, calls volition. Schools built only around content and intelligence will need to shift towards deliberately cultivating this capacity for effort, ownership, and follow-through. Student Government is Neev's answer to that shift: a space where students choose difficulty over ease, carry real responsibility beyond a grade, and build themselves through commitment rather than convenience. A house event planned end-to-end, a newspaper edition shipped under deadline, a quarterly report owned and delivered - these are precisely the kinds of “mental marathons” that keep initiative, curiosity, and resilience alive in a world where AI can do the easy version in five minutes.

What leadership asks of you, once selected

  • Uphold Neev Community Standards
  • Initiate, implement, and complete projects and activities
  • Communicate regularly, responsibly, and effectively for your role
  • Increase student engagement, improve school culture, and build community
  • Value ‘we’ over ‘me’ — stand for the greater good in every choice
  • Report regularly to your teacher/leader in charge
  • Maintain systematic, honest records for your area of responsibility

What we look for across every role
Every nominee is expected to already embody Neev’s community standards in word and spirit — well-read, community-oriented, and a strong, persuasive communicator. They should be regular in attendance, optimistic and positive in outlook, and empathic and respectful when discussing diverse viewpoints, while staying well-balanced across academics, activities, and relationships, and ready to put in work beyond school hours.
