NCBS Field Trip

On April 15, 2024, Grade 11 students visited the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) and the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS). This field trip aimed to explore the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) areas, focusing on the construction and deconstruction of knowledge in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. At NCBS, students interacted with Dr. Mukkund Thattai and Dr. Deepa Agashe, who are distinguished scientists in cell biology and evolutionary biology. Dr. Agashe highlighted the role of intuition and imagination in scientific inquiry, while Dr. Thattai emphasized the importance of specialization and deep exploration within a specific field. At ICTS, Dr. Samuel, a Simons Visiting Professor, discussed knowledge dynamics in physics and mathematics, highlighting interdisciplinary collaboration’s role in advancing scientific understanding. His insights enriched students’ awareness of knowledge construction and the relationship between disciplines. This educational excursion deepened students’ comprehension of Indian scientific practices and challenges, intersecting with TOK Natural Sciences and illustrating the interplay of intuition, evidence, and disciplinary boundaries.
